The email client platform of Microsoft Outlook can develop a strange issue whenever you try to access your User Account. So, even if you enter the correct details to sign into your email account, Outlook keeps asking for password.

What Solutions to Try When Outlook Keeps Asking for Password Repeatedly?

But, before checking out the solutions, you should know the reasons that force Outlook to ask for the password. 

Some Common Reasons due to Which Outlook Asks for Password

The very first reason could be some misconfiguration in the Outlook application. 

Also, if you are not using an updated version of the Microsoft Outlook, it can produce this error. 

Basically, this occurs when the Logon network security is not set as ‘Anonymous Authentication’ for Microsoft Exchange. 

Often, user credentials are stored on your PC in a separate Outlook folder. So, if this folder contains any corrupted entries, Outlook can keep asking for the password. 

Apply these Methods When Outlook Doesn’t Stop Asking for Passwords

In order to troubleshoot this issue with your Outlook account, try the following fixes in order to stop the prompts that are appearing for a password. 

Fix 1- Set Anonymous Authentication for Older Outlook Version

To fix repeated message about entering your password on older versions of Outlook, you can try this method. 

So, if you are using Windows-based computer to access your Outlook account, launch the Control Panel window. Hence, use the search box and type ‘control panel’ in it. 

After opening the Control Panel, find the tab for Mail and double-click on it. Next, hit the option of ‘Show Profiles’ and choose your account on Outlook. 

Now, select ‘Properties’ and go to the section of ‘Email Accounts’. Then, click on your email profile and hit the tab for ‘Change’ option. Whenever the dialog box for ‘Change Account’ pops up on your screen, choose ‘More Settings’. 

As the Microsoft Exchange dialog box appears, go to the tab of ‘Security’ and check the list of Login network security option. There, you need to tick the checkbox for ‘Anonymous Authentication’ and click on the tab of ‘OK’. 

Finally, save these changes by clicking on ‘Next’ and ‘Finish’ buttons. Also, hit the ‘Close’ button on the popup of Account Settings. If this method doesn’t fix the issue and Outlook 2016 keeps asking for password, try other solutions. 

Fix 2- Delete Cached Passwords for Outlook

If the junk files or password related to Outlook are stored on your PC, it’s better to get rid of them. According to some Outlook technicians, clearing the cached passwords can stop the frequent password requests. 

To try this method, click on the Windows Start menu and open the window of ‘Control Panel’. Set ‘Large Icons’ as your ‘View by’ feature and click on the icon for ‘User Accounts’. 

Next, find the option for ‘Manage your credentials’ and choose your credentials for Microsoft, Outlook, and Lync. You need to select the passwords for both Generic as well as Windows Credentials. 

Then, obtain the information corresponding to these accounts by clicking on ‘Details’. After that, hit the option of ‘Remove from Vault’ and close the ‘Control Panel’ window. 

Finally, reboot your system and try to launch your Outlook account to see if it’s asking for a password. 

Fix 3- Select the Feature to Remember Password for Outlook

To try this solution, launch the Outlook application on your computer and open the ‘File’ tab. Now, go to the ‘Account Settings’ and click on your Outlook account below the tab of ‘Email’.

So, navigate to the checkbox for ‘Remember Password’ located at the bottom of the new window and tick it. Then, click on the ‘Next’ button and check whether Outlook is asking for password continuously. 

Fix 4- Create a New Outlook Email Account if Old Profile is Corrupted

Often, your Outlook profile can keep generating the error message and ask for password if the account is damaged. So, to resolve this issue, close the active Outlook window and launch the Control Panel on your system.

So, click on ‘Mail’ and then find the tab of ‘Show Profiles…’ below the section of ‘Profiles’. After that, hit the ‘Add’ button and type a new name for your Outlook account. 

Then, provide your name and email to register your profile and Outlook and click on the ‘Next’ button. Finally, complete the Outlook setup process by clicking on the tab of ‘Finish’. 

Also, choose ‘Always use this profile’ so that Outlook doesn’t ask you to enter a password every time.
