March 4, 2020

Outlook is an effective application when it comes to the aspect of sending and receiving mails. But sometimes, Outlook fails to synchronize with Gmail and during this time you won’t be able to send or receive mail.

In most cases, if you feed incorrect information in Gmail client such errors occur. There are other reasons too behind this error. The end result is that Outlook won’t connect to Gmail. But whatever be the reason, you can easily fix it by just implementing the mentioned methods.

4 Probable Solutions to Fix Outlook not connecting to Gmail

In this section, we are mentioning the probable methods to fix the issues. By just implementing those methods you will be able to sync Gmail with Outlook

Method 1: Enable IMAP

By just enabling the IPS, you will be able to connect Outlook with Gmail. And to do that, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Open the Web Browser and from there, go to the address bar.
  • In the address bar, go to the official website of Gmail.
  • From the web page of Gmail, go to the Settings.
  • Now, tap on the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab.
  • Now, go to the IMAP section and from there, tap on the “Enable IMAP” option.
  • Tap on the “Save Changes” option next.

By just doing this, you will be able to connect Outlook with Gmail. And if you are still unable to do that, you need to move to the next solution.

Method 2: Allow the Less Secure Apps

If the Outlook is unable to connect to Gmail, then there must be some security issues in the system. To fix the issues, you need to install only the secured apps in the device.

To do that, you need to implement the below-mentioned steps:

  • Go to the Google Account. Now, tap on the “Profile Picture”.
  • Choose the “Sign and security” option next and then tap on the “Connected apps & sites” option.
  • Next, search for the “Allow less secure app” option and tap on it.
  • Tap on the “Save” button now.

After providing access to the secured apps you will be able to connect Gmail with Outlook. But if you are still unable to fix the issues, then it is suggested to change the SMTP.

Method 3: Change the SMTP and Configure the settings in the Email client

By just changing the SMTP and other settings in the email client you can connect Outlook with Gmail. Now, to change the settings in the email client, you need to follow the below-mentioned steps:

  • Open a Web browser and from there, go to the Official website of Outlook.
  • Now, tap on the “Manage Connected Accounts” option.
  • Check if the “Incoming Mail Server ” section the Gmail ID is set to “IMAP. Gamil.com”.
  • And in the required SSL section, check if the option is set to “Yes”.
  • The port number in the incoming mail server should be “993”.
  • Go to the “Display name” section and check if the correct name is there.
  • Next, in the “Account name, username or email address” section there should be the correct email address.
  • Now, move to the “Password” section and check if the correct password is given.
  • In the “outgoing mail server” check if the “SSL, TLS and Authentication” is given the access.

Note: In the above sections, if you are seeing the “Yes” option, then the access is already given. The Port of SSL will be “465”, and the TLS will be “587”.

Now, after changing the settings, the Outlook profile will be connected with Gmail. But, if the error still persists, then you need to proceed to the next section.

Method 4: Enable the Folders

Outlook won’t connect with Gmail if the application doesn’t have access to the Gmail folders. In that case, you need to give access to those folders to outlook.

To enable that, you need to follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  • Open a Web Browser and from there, get into the Gmail account.
  • Now, tap on the “Settings” and move to the “Labels” tab.
  • Check if the “Show in IMAP’ box is checked for “Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail”.

If the “Show in the IMAP” box is not checked, then you need to check that box to provide access.

You can also opt for refreshing the Outlook. Simply tap on the “Refresh” button in the Window system. If you are a Mac user, first tap on the “Organise” option and then tap on the “Sync Folder” to refresh Outlook.
